GAS LOG SETS

Gas log sets can be chosen in vented, vent-free, or direct vent system models. Below, we break down the advantages of these models so that you can better decide which is right for your home.

Vented

Vented models are very realistic and have a more natural-looking flame when compared to a vent-free model. These have to be installed in a fully functional wood-burning fireplace. With this system, most of the heat is lost as it rises up the chimney, which is similar to naturally burning wood. There is also some soot produced when the flames touch the gas logs.

Vent-Free

Vent-free gas log sets provide similar rates of heat, but more of that heat is delivered into your home than vented sets. These have to be installed in a vent-free approved fireplace. Some state and local codes do not allow for these, so installation is subject to your area’s regulations. We can help you determine if vent-free sets are legal in your area.

Direct Vent Systems

These systems offer a large viewing area, so the fire can be seen from just about anywhere in the room. There are different models available, so these can be purchased to fit most fireplaces.

Gas logs can come in natural gas or liquid propane (LP) sets. Some fireplaces have a line installed on them that says which can be used. If there is no line on your fireplace, you can choose which fuel type to use.

START/CONTROL SYSTEMS

Match Light

Match lights are only for natural gas systems; there is no pilot light. With this, you’ll have to place a match or lighter near the burner and turn on the gas with the key valve, which you also use to control the flame’s height.

Manual Safety Pilot

With this system, there is a pilot light that is always lit and can be manually lit if necessary. It’s very similar to a pilot for a water heater. All you have to do is turn your burner on and off; remote controls cannot be used.

Remote Control

These systems feature a remote pilot valve. You can adjust some of the functions of your gas log set via the remote control, depending on the model that you purchase. A standard remote control will have a simple on/off button and controls the flame’s height.
